Questions we get asked.
Quick answers to the things customers ask us most.
Is condensation on my new windows normal?
A little condensation on the outside of new windows first thing in the morning is normal. It means the glass is insulating so well that the outer pane stays cool. Condensation on the inside usually points to a ventilation issue in that room, and condensation trapped between the panes means a sealed unit has failed and needs replacing. Let us know and we will take a look.
What does A-rated glass actually mean?
Window energy ratings run from A+ down to E based on how well a window stops heat escaping. A-rated glass has a low U-value, which means less heat loss, lower energy bills and warmer inside surfaces. All our windows carry A-rated glass as standard.
How long does a window or door installation take?
Most homes have their windows and doors fitted in a day, or two for a larger project. We give you a clear timeframe with your quote.
What is the difference between a composite and a uPVC door?
A composite door is built from several materials, an insulating foam core, a tough fibreglass skin and a timber-effect frame, which gives excellent strength, security and insulation. A uPVC door is more budget-friendly and still low maintenance and secure, with a slightly less premium finish.
Will a new front door need planning permission?
In almost all cases no. Replacing an existing door with a new one of a similar size is classed as permitted development. The main exceptions are listed buildings and some conservation areas, where we will help guide you.
Do I need planning permission for an Equinox roof?
Usually not. Replacing an existing conservatory roof with an Equinox tiled roof is normally permitted development, provided it does not significantly increase the height or footprint. Listed buildings and some conservation areas can have extra rules, which we are happy to advise on.
Does an Equinox roof need building regulations approval?
Yes. Because it is a solid, insulated structure rather than glass or polycarbonate, a tiled roof conversion needs building control sign-off. We handle this as part of the job, so there is nothing for you to arrange.
What is covered by the 10 year guarantee?
Every window, door and conservatory we install is backed by a 10 year insurance-backed guarantee, covering both our workmanship and the products. That protects you against manufacturing faults and installation issues for a full decade, with the insurance backing giving you peace of mind even if we were no longer trading.
